Financial Matters
BOOK AID hardly talks about money. But, as a
Charity we do need to give an account of things financial. So, as part of our
testimony to God’s faithfulness and as a thank you to those of you
that support the ministry with gifts, we would like to share a few money matters.
BOOK AID
is one of the many ‘faith missions’. None of the Book Aid team is salaried. But,
we do help with some of the workers’ accommodation costs as the Lord blesses and
provides through the ministry. We also have a ‘support fund’ for gifts
designated for the Team members. There is also a Projects fund for special
purchases, this is supported mainly by legacies.
BOOK AID
trusts God to provide funds so that we can pay costs for shipping at least 10
containers annually to Book and Bible famine areas overseas – that is,
mainly Africa and Asia. This annual cost figure for shipping is around £30,000.
However, most years we ship more than 10 containers. In one year we actually
sent 20. Last year (2007) we shipped 14 containers which brought the total sent
to 240 containers. Ten containers carry approximately one million books and
Bibles.
BOOK AID’s
income comes through channels raised up by the Lord, such as:
a)
Sales of books in the UK which we deem
unsuitable for overseas either because of their condition or contents.
b)
Money gifts from God’s people for the work
or designated for the support of the workers.
c)
Some payment manages to seep back from
overseas booksellers, but this is quite rare
BOOK AID’s FUTURE.
We praise God for the way He has blessed us and provided all our needs, both for
the ministry and staff. Some of the provision has been the millions of Bibles
and books graciously donated by His people in the UK. Then there are the
200 or more collectors scattered around the nation who make themselves
available to channel local collections into the network for sorting, selecting,
shipping or selling. Also the various properties which Book Aid owns or
uses to store and handle this mountain of books in areas such as London,
Ranskill (Notts), Barnard Castle (Durham), Wisbech (Cambs) and Northern Ireland.
Please spare a few moments right now to
Praise God for what He has done and pray that we may continue to know “His rest
of faith” (1 Cor. 2:5) or, as The Message puts it “…your life
of faith is a response to God’s power…” |
